Hello! Today I'm launching a redesign of Sill's filter UI. This enables some new features for Sill+ subscribers. Let's get into it.

Redesigned filter UI

The filter UI in Sill has gone through multiple iterations since Sill's launch. The current design feels the most harmonious with the rest of Sill to me.

Upon page load, you'll notice the top of your feed has two options: Trending and Fresh links. These are the default views for any user. Trending is your classic list of most popular links. Fresh links sorts your feed by the newest link posted. The new design makes these two popular versions of your Sill feed easy to access at all times.

Tap the filter button in the top right1, and you'll see the new filter panel. These are the same sets of filters Sill has always had, presented in a more readable layout with simpler controls.

Extended time ranges

For Sill+ subscribers, there is one new option in the filter UI. The time scale now extends out to 30 days. You can see the most popular links in your network as aggregated over 7 days, 14 days, and 30 days. I'm trying to keep this UI as simple as possible, but if subscribers want fine-grained control of the time range, please let me know and I'll explore it!

Saved filters

Putting all of this together is a new feature for subscribers: saved filters. If you build a filter set that really works for you, now you can save that as its own feed.

For example, I have a saved feed I use all the time that I call "Rising". The filter set is simple: sort by newest, but only show stories that have 5 or more shares over the last 24 hours.

If I create this filter set, I'll see a new button in my feed selector called "+ Save feed".

If I click this, I'll be able to name my new feed, and it will show up alongside Trending and Fresh links as an option I can easily toggle between.

These saved feeds will show up anywhere you use Sill: on desktop, mobile and the beta iOS app.

There is more coming for Sill+ subscribers over the coming months, so now is a great time to sign up and try everything out!
